The Tri-County Report for March 12th, 2010...

State police in Beaver County say an Aliquippa man is facing several charges after leading police on not one, but two chases. They did not provide an age or address for the suspect but police say Jack Daugherty refused to stop after he was caught speeding on Interstate 376. Police ended the chase after getting Daugherty's registration and identification. They later tried to stop him again on Route 18. That resulted in yet another chase. That ended when Daughterty's vehicle crashed into a snow bank.

Aggravated assault and other charges have been filed against a Beaver Falls man accused of shooting another man. Police claim 23 year old Ryan Robinson of Fifth Avenue was arguing with the victim, Kenneth Moore. Robinson allegedly pulled out a gun and fired it, hitting Moore in the hand. Officials say Robinson is being held in the Beaver County Jail unable to post 50-thousand dollars bond.

A Mercer man already facing charges in connection with several burglaries is now facing additional counts. State police say 38 year old Chad Anthony Combs is now accused of breaking into a home on Route 468 in East Lackawannock Township. That took place back in January. He was arraigned Wednesday and bail was set at 25-thousand dollars and Combs was returned to the Mercer County Jail.

Greenville has a new borough manager. Borough officials have tapped Scott Andrejchak to fill the post vacated by former manager Ryan Eggleston. Andrejchak has spent the last ten years serving as finance director for the city of Clairton which, like Greenville, has been dealing with an Act 47 designation. Officials say he will begin working in Greenville on April 15th. He will be paid a salary of 55-thousand dollars.

Authorities in Alaska continue to look into whether a Slippery Rock native was killed by a wolf. The body of 32 year old Candice Berner was discovered near an airstrip. She worked as a special education teacher with the Lake and Peninsula School District. State police and Fish and Game Commission officials are taking part in the investigation. If they rule that her death was the result of a wolf attack, it would be Alaska's first recorded wolf attack resulting in a fatality.

Motorists in Lawrence County should prepare for a possible sobriety check point. That is because state police say they are planning to conduct one between now and the end of the month. The location of the check point will be determined using crash information collected by police, allowing them to concentrate their efforts on high risk areas. Again...that is expected to take place before the end of the month.

State Auditor General Jack Wagner has asked Governor Rendell to extend the deadline to file for property tax relief. Homeowners had until March 1st to apply for the rebate but Wagner is asking to push back that deadline to April 15th. Wagner said the state's confusing application process has kept tens of thousand of owners from getting the tax cut. Though the extension has not yet been approved, homeowners can download an application at revenue.state.pa.us.

Everybody wants state infrastructure maintained but nobody wants to pay for it...that is Representative Joe Markosek's take concerning ongoing resistance to the tolling of Interstate 80. The Monroeville Democrat says highway funding, enabled by Act 44, will be cut nearly in half this summer on July 1st. Lawmakers representing constituents and businesses near I-80 have lobbied against the tolling asserting it will harm economic development.
